Main information

Chinese/Japanese restaurant on [[Locale Regent Street|Regent Street]], offering sushi, dim sum, and other Japanese and Chinese food. The interior is quite smart [http://www.flickr.com/photos/kake_pugh/5048831854/ photo], with large solid melamine dark wood effect tables, red linen napkins, orange-red fabric-covered padded chairs, black slate style floor tiles, and delicate floral wallpaper. The ground floor seats about 20, and there are two more rooms upstairs seating around 14 or so people each (these may be for karaoke — there's a KTV sign in the window). On [[Kake]]'s September 2010 visit, the dim sum was rather poor. Fried white turnip cake (蘿蔔糕; £2.80) [http://www.flickr.com/photos/kake_pugh/5048217985/ photo] was a much smaller portion than I've had elsewhere, and tasted more of fried egg than turnip for some reason; the pieces of preserved meat were very small too, almost unnoticeable. King prawn dumplings (蝦餃; £3.80) [http://www.flickr.com/photos/kake_pugh/5050277873/ photo] had thick, mushy, stodgy wrappers and overcooked fillings. Beancurd rolls (鮮竹卷; £2.80) [http://www.flickr.com/photos/kake_pugh/5050824590/ photo] were probably the least bad of the three things I tried; stuffed with glass noodles, carrots, kelp, and mushrooms, their only crime was being a little bland. The rest of the menu may be better — though I had thought that the Chinese side and particularly the dim sum would be the best bet, since the waitress told me the chef is from Hong Kong, and the menu is written in English and Chinese with no Japanese that I noticed. Accessibility: Small step to get in. Toilets are up a flight of stairs.
