Main information
Content:
Real ale pub on Hills Road near the station. Occasionally has live music, although on a very small scale. The piped music is usually jazz/funk/blues. The floors are bare boards, and the walls and ceiling are covered with posters for assorted music events in Cambridge, going back over many years. It's quite small, with chairs and tables squeezed into corners and nooks. There are a few picnic benches out the front too. A pool table is in its own room round the back of the bar. The beer has always been good when I've drunk there. On a visit in September 2010 there were two regulars (Adnams Broadside and Black Sheep Bitter) and two guests (Stonehenge Pigswill and Woodforde Norfolk Nog, both £3.10/pint). I tried both guests and they tasted good and fresh. The member of staff behind the bar was happy to give me a taster. As of September 2010 food is served noon-2pm Monday-Friday — sandwiches £2.50, jacket potatoes from £3.50, burger and chips £4, etc. They also do Real Handcooked brand crisps (50p), which are quite nice. Pride of place in the front window is given to the bar billiards table. (Is this still there?) Accessibility: Two steps up and a small one down to get in. The toilets and pool table are down three more steps at the back. <b>See also:</b> * Beer in the Evening comments * CrawlPlanner comments * Cambridge Online comments * Ian Kitching's review * Local Secrets review * Pocket Pubs entry * Cambridge & District CAMRA review, Oct-Dec 2010 <small>Last visited by Kake, September 2010.</small>
