Main information
Content:
St Johns is a large, rich college of the University of Cambridge founded in 1511, and located in the North of the historic city centre. The college comprises around 530 undergraduates, 300 graduates, and 130 fellows. Founded between 1589 and 1967, the buildings present a wide range of architectural styles. Unlike the other colleges in this area, St Johns extends over the river by means of a covered bridge, commonly known as the "Bridge of Sighs". Members of St Johns were prominent in the movement to abolish slavery. The college is also associated with a range of eminent and notable individuals, including Nobel prize winners, politicians, writers, and so on, and has a choir of particularly high renown. St Johns is open to visitors at various times during the year, and charges admission. Latest times and prices can be found on the college website. Many tourists seem to find this college particularly satisfying to tour; it is said to resemble the fictional "Hogwarts".
