Comment by [[DouglasReay]]: Strangely enough, according to Google, this page is now linked to by quite a few places as a list of Cambridge guides. So, since it seems to be serving a useful function, I won't get rid of it. And, if anyone visiting here knows of a guide to Cambridge (preferably one that might be willing to make its data available under the creative commons license) that is not already linked, please feel free to add it.

Comment by [[DouglasReay]], Dec 2008: I've added a few more, and changed the URLs to links. The utility of this page could be further enhanced by adding some brief information for each site, such as: commercial vs non-commercial, size, quality, generality, contact person and whether they have been contacted to ask if they are interested in sharing their data. I've filled in contact details. Anyone want to suggest a form letter to send, or go ahead and contact these sites? Or just fill in some more of the details about each site?

Comment by [[Kake]], Dec 2008: Thanks for the updates. I'm not entirely clear on what you actually want to ask these people for, though! Could you explain a bit more? Were you thinking of asking if we could copy text content over from their sites to here? If so, then why do that rather than just link? Or were you wondering if they might be fed up of maintaining their own sites and want to move all their content over here permanently? It would be great to get some collaboration going, but I'm just not clear on what exactly you're thinking of
.

There are a number of other guides to Cambridge, some of which might well be interested in sharing their existing content under the Creative_Commons license. Has anyone tried contacting:

I mean, how many times does the wheel need reinventing? Mike Miller <pubs@mikewmiller.net> looks to be the main man to ask.

Comment by Kake: I think the idea is partly that the Open Guide can be a way to bring all these sources of information together. See for example the Randomness Guide to London, where we're making an effort to have lots of useful external links for each place listed.

Comment by Kaet: "As many times as it takes to get a round one": I'm not sure you can reasonably describe a city in terms of its pubs and restaurants. There are few integrated guides including information on doctors, parks, playgrounds, car parks, schools, etc, as well as pubs, restaurants, etc, except for fragmentary pages which are inundated with advertising. I can well imagine why there are plenty of guides to the hospitality industry as it's both profitable and enjoyable, whereas taking photos of yet another dentists is neither!
