Large, and empty on a Wednesday evening; serving a standard English restaurant sort of a menu. Comfortable chairs and tile floors. Part of a small chain - five others. It recommends its cocktails.
Has a piano in the bar window, and a live pianist every other weekday and Sundays; you feel a little sorry for him, since he's clearly playing with the primary requirement being background music.
Serves a three-course set menu for £15.95 Monday to Friday, a-la-carte on weekends. Reasonable vegetarian options - two starters and two main dishes.
I dined there 11 November with a friend; we shared the whole baked camembert as a starter, which comes with not quite enough dipping opportunities and is perhaps slightly over-bitter but perfectly pleasant. Braised pork with an elaborate mash for me, mushroom fricassee for my friend, both very tasty. They officially don't have house wines, but offer a nice £14 Chardonnay if you ask for house white. £28 a head with wine but without dessert.
