Greene King house on the corner of Gwydir Street and Milford Street. Not exactly a pub, and not exactly a bar, the Alex lies somewhere in between.
Although it does advertise three real ales — Greene King IPA, Ruddles Orchard, and Old Speckled Hen — on the afternoon of Kake's visit, all three of the other customers were drinking wine. I didn't sample the beer as it was a bit early for me; I had a J2O, which cost £2.
The decor is pleasant and clean, with lots of wood in evidence as well as a cosy nook featuring leather armchairs and a sofa (and sadly also a flatscreen TV showing sport) (photo).
There's a beer garden out the back, with a covered and heated seating area.
According to a blackboard outside, food served all day every day.
Last visited by Kake, 7 August 2007. Opening hours and food times taken from notices outside pub, August 2007.
