Historical version 9 of Charlie Chan (view current version)

I'm always slightly suspicious of any Chinese restaurant the first time I visit it. In the past I have found food between different menus highly variable and not always the quality I'd hoped for the price.

Charlie Chan's first good point was that the dining area of the restaurant was pleasant, and the tables able to cope with the large number of people we turned up with (two groups of ten). The service from the start was pleasant and the atmosphere charming.

The food arrived promptly at the table, and was of a high standard. The dishes were also fairly generous in size, meaning we ordered about seven different dishes for ten people and no one went hungry. The food also didn't seem so stuffed full of MSG just to fill me up as with some venues; so I stayed full for the rest of the evening.

The bill was at the end only £14 a head inc. service, which included a reasonable amount of drink.

So far probably the best restaurant in Cambridge I have been to. Certainly not one to miss for the Chinese food enthusiast.

Occasionaly hosts jazz nights, on the upper floor; these are very popular, so booking is essential
