Historical version 2 of Midsummer Common (view current version)

Midsummer Common is a large area of common land, close to the centre of Cambridge. Cattle graze the land during the summer months, and it is used as the site of fairs, circuses, and similar events, throughout the year. Most prominently, Strawberry Fair, a free annual community-run festival, occurs on the common during early June each year. The Fort St George public house and Midsummer House up-market restaurant are situated along the edge of the common, on the river bank. The rectangular area of Midsummer Common around the Four Lamps roundabout is known as Butts Green.
